Farmers' union announces indefinite protest from March 18

The Bharti Kisan Union (Dakaunda) today declared an indefinite statewide protest from March 18 demanding the immediate and unconditional release of their leaders and others arrested on March 6.

Condemning the "repression" of the state government, Nirmal Singh, block president from Patiala said here that they will not give up till they get their leaders and other detainees out from various jails.

The Police had detained peasant leaders and others to prevent a rail roko agitation on March 6. Cases were registered against them and they were remanded to judicial custody. Police also detained around 70 protesters from Bhatinda on March 10.
