Opposition National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah today accused the Mehbooba Mufti government of unleashing "full-fledged war" against students who have been resorting to violence over last few days.

"Such is the ruthlessness and barbarism perpetrated by this Ggvernment that even young school going girls are at the receiving ends of batons and teargas shells," he said while interacting with a group of students who called on him.

"We stand in solidarity with the students and ask the government to stop this merciless, nihilistic assault on our youth," said Abdullah, a newly-elected member of the Lok Sabha from Srinagar constituency.

Students of several colleges in Kashmir have been indulging in stone-pelting over the last few days, prompting security forces to act against them.

The students told Abdullah about the severe impact of the internet blockade on their academic pursuits and said those students who were preparing for competitive exams were seriously disadvantaged due to lack of internet access.
