Press Trust of India Srinagar
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah today greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Shivratri and expressed hope that the festival will be celebrated in a spirit of harmony.

They prayed for peace and tranquillity and hoped for a new era of goodwill among all sections of the society, a spokesman of the National Conference said.

In a message, Farooq said the occasion symbolises great composite cultural ethos for which Jammu and Kashmir is known all over.

He said such occasions strengthen bonds of amity, love and secular temperament among all sections of the society.

He said the festival, observed by Kashmiri Pandits as Herath, has been perhaps one of the festivals across the world facilitated by majority community and observed by the minority brethren from time immemorial in true spirit of Kashmir's composite and pluralistic ethos.

"Like other festivals, Shivratri symbolises composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir that provides inspiration to others to pursue the path of ultimate truth", Omar said in his greetings.
