Senior National Conference leader Mohmmad Aslam Goni today said he would formally join Congress in Jammu on October 21.

Goni, who was a political adviser to former chief minister and NC chief Farooq Abdullah, expressed his gratitude to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

"Yesterday evening, I was informed by J&k Congress chief Saifuddin Soz about the approval granted by Sonia Gandhi about my joining to the party," Goni said in a statement here.

"I am joining the Congress party in the best interest of the people of country in general and that of the state in particular. Every well-meaning secular citizen of the country in this crucial time is under an obligation to strengthen the hands of Congress leadership to stall the growing communal trends in the country," he said.
