The 12-day fast, seeking to implement the long pending Avanashi-Athkkadavu Ground Water Recharge Scheme, at various places, has been withdrawn.
The withdrawal was based on the announcement made in the State Assembly yesterday by the Chief Minister giving administration sanction and funds for the project, the sources in the organising committee for the agitation, which met last night at Avanashi, said today.
While 14 persons were on fast in Avanashi for the last 12 days, nearly 70 were on hunger strike, ranging from six to nine days, in Annur, Cheyur and Peramanallur in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts for the issue.
