In a tragic incident, a couple and their five-year-old daughter died in separate incidents in Odisha's port town of Paradip today, police said.

While the father-daughter duo died in a road accident on the National Highway-5 earlier in the morning, the mother died of cardiac arrest after getting information about the demise of her husband and the little girl, said additional superintendent of police (ASP) Madhabananda Sahu.

The deceased persons were identified as Sourav Bhattacharya (30) of Nayahati in Bardhaman district of West Bengal, daughter Archita (5) and wife Suni Bhattacharya (25).

Saurav was working as a chemical engineer in a local oil company and was staying at Panigada area on the outskirts of the town along with his wife and daughter.

The incident took place earlier in the day when Saurav along with his daughter, a LKG student of DAV School, Paradip, was his way to the port town on a bike to attend Independence Day celebrations. Their bike met with an accident at Panigada, about ten km from here, Sadu said.

"As soon as Suni learnt about the death of her husband and daughter in the accident, she developed chest pain and subsequently passed away at the hospital," the ASP said.
