A 65-year-old man axed his daughter-in-law to death in Gadigram, about 25-km from here, in the Patamda police station area, police said today.

The accused, identified as Mohan Majhi was arrested after he surrendered at the police station and confessed to his crime, DySP (Patamda) Amit Kumar said, adding that the body of 20-year-old Sunita Majhi has been recovered and sent for post mortem.

The DySP said that Mohan's family members including himself were not happy with his son marrying a girl outside their community two and half years ago and there used to be regular fights in that connection.

Yesterday, on the occasion of Holi, Mohan had an altercation with Sunita following which he axed her to death in a fit of rage when his son was not at home.
