Father kills daughter in honour killing

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her father for planning to marry a youth from a different caste.

Raj Bala, a teacher in a government primary school, was shot dead yesterday by her father, Bahoran Lal Jatav, at Sirodhi Angadpur village in, yesterday, SP (Rural) Brijesh Srivastava said.

Jatav, along with others, also performed the last rites of the girl and dispersed the ashes in Ramganga in order to destroy evidence, the SP said.

Raj Bala had been in a relationship with Sandeep Sharma (22), a salesman at a petrol pump, since the last three years and the duo were scheduled to tie the knot in a court on August 12.
 

According to the SP, the girl's father was against the marriage and he shot her four times, killing her.

The SP said prima facie it seems like a case of honour killing.

A case has been registered against Jatav, the girl's brother, and two others, the SP said.

The matter had come to light when the the girl's sister informed Sharma about the killing, who subsequently informed the police, Srivastava said.
