A three-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father today, after he "suspected" his wife's 'fidelity' in the Mancherial town of Adilabad district, the police said.

After allegedly throwing the baby girl Harini, into a water tank on Ashok Road in Mancherial, her father C Krishna, a painter, initially claimed that she had been "abducted".

"After the incident he reported the matter to his relatives and police. However, we suspected his version and questioned him, after which he revealed that he himself killed the baby by throwing her in a water tank," the investigating officer told PTI.

Krishna had "suspected" his wife's "fidelity" and it seems to be the reason behind the incident, he said.

The Mancherial police has booked a murder case and taken Krishna into custody.
