As the body of Narendra Singh Tomar, an accused in the high-profile MPPEB scam (popularly known as Vyapam scam), was today cremated, his father demanded a CBI probe of the death.

Tomar (29), a government veterinarian, had been arrested in February this year on the charge of helping a student from Jhabua to crack the 2009 Pre-Medical Test through fraudulent means. He died in judicial custody in Indore last Saturday night.

His father Kailash Singh Tomar today demanded a CBI probe and alleged that police officer Ajay Jain had demanded Rs 7 lakh from Narendra and on failure to pay he was framed up in MPPEB scam and tortured.

Narendra's body was cremated at his native place Parosa area in the district amid police presence. A large number of people attended the funeral.

Narendra is the 24th accused in MPPEB scam who died an unnatural death.

Vyapam case, which came to light in 2013, is a massive admission and recruitment scandal involving politicians, bureaucrats and middlemen. Several politicians including former Education minister Laxmikant Sharma, a host of officials and scores of aspirants have been arrested in the case.
