Father-son duo get 7 years' jail for cheating foreigner

A local court here today awarded seven years of imprisonment to a father-son duo for cheating a foreigner in Gaya district.

The court of Assistant Session Judge Ramanand Ram held Tarkeshwar Prasad Yadav (father) and Sanjay Kumar (son) guilty of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

The duo was awarded two years jail and a fine of Rs 2000 each under IPC's section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and seven years imprisonment plus a fine of Rs 3000 each under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), Prosecution Officer Alok Kumar said. Both the sentences would run concurrently.

 

During the hearing, Kumar had submitted that the victim, N Robert from Scotland gave Rs 40 lakh to the duo in 2015 to construct a building at Bodh Gaya for her NGO.

However, the accused did not hand over the building following which, Robert filed a complaint against them.
