Father-son duo get life term in dowry death case

The fast track court sentenced Aslam Ansari and his father Shafiq Ansari to life term and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them after holding them guilty in the 16-year- old case.

The judge also convicted the two to two years of imprisonment under IPC section 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) that will run concurrently to the life imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Aslam's wife Mehrunnisa was burnt to death by him and his father in Hariharganj village at Nasriganj area on May 2, 1996 after her family failed to meet their dowry demands.
