A 51-year-old man and his son, both newspaper vendors, were killed when their motorcycle was hit and dragged by a speeding car in the wee hours today in Gujranwala town here.

Rajendra Kumar and his 21-year-old son Piyush were hit by the Honda City car when they were going to Gujranwala town by motorcycle to distribute the newspapers picked up from north Delhi's Model Town Centre.

According to the police, at about 6.30 AM today, a speeding white colour Honda City car hit the motorcycle.

Piyush, who was riding the pillion, fell from the bike while his father was dragged for some distance along with the car, some eyewitnesses said.

The driver had to reverse the vehicle to get rid of Rajendra's body, they said.

Both died in hospital.

As per the car's registration number, obtained from eyewitnesses, it was registered in Haryana, police said.

Piyush, who got married six months ago, and his father were planning to go to Kanpur tomorrow to finalise the wedding of his youngest sister.

Meanwhile, in another accident, a 24-year-old woman died while her husband escaped with minor injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a low-floor DTC bus this morning.

The bus driver has been held, police said.

Sarita was employed as a nurse at a private hospital. Her husband Lalit, 27, too worked at the same hospital. They were headed to the hospital when the bus hit them.

The couple got married only three months ago and they lived in Outer Delhi's Barwala village.
