Fathers of two accused of looting gold ornaments arrested

Fathers of two accused persons who allegedly looted gold ornaments from a jewellery shop at Balipadara in Odisha's Ganjam district about a month ago were arrested, police said today.

Sanyasi Nayak (58) of Rampuda and Radhakanta Jena (48) of Sunakara under Kabisurya Nagara and Buguda police station limit respectively were arrested yesterday on charges of receiving the loot, they said.

Around 500 gram gold ornaments, 3.500 kg silver ornaments and cash around Rs 51,000 were seized from the duo, police said.

Mithun Nayak and Dipu Jena, two of the six acused persons, were allegedly involved in looting the jewellery shop on October 31 at the gun point.
 

"These two accused persons sent their shares of the looted property to their fathers. Acting on a tip-off, we raided their houses and recovered the looted ornaments and arrested the two," said sub divisional police officer, Bhanjanagara, Ramesh Chandra Sethi.

Sanyasi and Radhakanta are the fathers of Mithun and Dipu respectively. The accused persons, however, are yet to be arrested. "We are conducting searh operations and the two will be nabbed soon. We have identified the accused persons from the footage of CCTV," the SDPO said.

At least six armed miscreants came in two motorcycles and fired in the air to terrorise people in the area. They looted gold ornaments valued at around Rs 10 lakh last month, police said.
