Fatigue kills elderly woman who stood in queue for pension

A 70-year-old woman, who was standing in a long queue for almost two hours at a centre here to get herself enrolled for pension benefits, died today after complaining of chest pain, police said.

According to Kothapet Inspector of Police, Venkateswarlu, a large number of people had lined up outside the pension enrollment centre at Kothapet since 3 AM.

Tired after almost standing there for two hours, the woman, identified as Padala Kanthamma allegedly collapsed on the spot around 5 AM following which she was taken home by her relatives, police said.

As soon as she reached her residence, the woman complained of chest pain and was rushed to the government hospital here, where she died while undergoing treatment, police added.
 

Whether the victim suffered a cardiac arrest is yet to be confirmed.
