FDA seizes gutka, tobacco and spurious butter worth Rs 4 lakh

Banned Gutka and tobacco along with spurious butter worth Rs 4 lakhs have been seized by FDA officials after two separate raids were conducted in the Mira-Bhayander region here.

The stock comprising scented tobacco of various labels was seized here yesterday from a tempo which was coming to Mumbai, FDA Joint Commissioner PM Raut of Konkan division told PTI today.

The tempo was intercepted at the popular junction of Fountain Hotel, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

The driver of the tempo Deepak Bacchan Pal (27), hailing from Vapi of Gujarat, who had brought these goods valued at over 3.5 lakhs has been arrested, the official said.
 

An offence has been registered with the Kashimira police station, and the officials are further probing the case.

In another incident, a team of officials from the FDA, acting on a tip off raided a locality in Jessel Park in Bhayander and caught people manufacturing butter rom Palmolein Oil, water and butter.

It was being packed in self-manufactured wrapper of Amul Butter, the FDA officials said.

One Manoj Agarwal has been arrested in connection with the manufacture of this product by using the name of the popular brand and selling it in the market.

FDA officials also seized stock of 73 kg of spurious butter so manufactured and ready for dispatch. The seized goods was valued at Rs 21,900.

An offence has been registered with the Navghar police station under Bhayander division the FDA, the officer added.
