Around 200 athletes and as many officials have already arrived in the city. Officials from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) would be here to collect dope samples in the event.

Talking to reporters here, Karnataka Athletics Association president and KPCC chief Parameshwar thanked the Athletics Federation of India for giving Karnataka the opportunity to host the event.

He indicated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had engagements in Delhi, might not able to attend the inaugural ceremony.

"I have requested him to come by a special flight and he has told me that he will try his best," Parameshwar said.

The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a stage programme by troupes from various parts of the state. The athletic events would begin on May 1, he said.
