Noted industrialist Anand Mahindra said here today that he is not new to Uttar Pradesh and has a Lucknow connect while announcing a Rs 200 crore investment pact with the state to set up a 200 room Mahindra Club property.

It feels like a wanderer has returned home, the Mahindra Group Chairman said at the inaugural session of the Investors Summit- 2018 here.

He said that even though he was brought up in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh is his mother's land. His mother was born in Allahabad. She studied in Lucknow where she later became a teacher of history at city's famous Isabella Thoburn (IT) college.

Mahindra said he has grown up listening to the stories about UP from his mother. "...mujhe aisa mehsoos ho raha hai ki main ek musafir hun jo idhar udhar bhatak bhatak kar aakhir aaj ghar laut aya hai (I feel like a wanderer who after wandering has finally returned home)."

On the potential and vast business opportunities in the state, Mahindra said the competition of UP should not be with any state but with other countries.

The size of state gives immense opportunities to investors to expand their business and invest in UP. The best thing is the government is also committed to bringing in investments and boost the state's economy.

"The government organising such a big conference itself shows how committed this government is. I promise that Mahindra Group is with you in your struggle," Mahindra said.

Sharing his investment plans, he said: "If our sales of electric vehicle take off in UP and if there is a supportive electric vehicle policy announced I am committing here that we will be willing to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in UP."

Besides, he said: "We are also delighted to announce an investment in Varanasi which is the state's crown jewel. Club Mahindra will be executing an MoU with the state government for a 200 crore investment to set up a 200 room property in the Vindhya Varanasi region," he added.
