Email account of a female Assistant Professor of the Delhi University was allegedly hacked and offensive mails using her photographs were sent to her senior colleagues, police said today.

A case under sections 66 and 66C of the Information Technology Act has been registered in this regard on Tuesday at the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police which works under the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), police said.

"The incident came to light when the women were informed by her colleagues about receiving some defamatory emails from her account.

"The professor, who teaches on ad-hoc basis in the English department of Ram Lal Anand College realized that her account was hacked and approached local police after which the case was transferred to the Cyber Cell," said a senior police official.

Police suspect that it could be a handy work of some student of the college where the lady professor teaches. Further investigations are underway.
