Close on the heels of shooting dead a male bear, Forest Department officials today managed to trap a female bear, which was creating menace in villages near Kothagiri area in Nilgiris District.
The Forest department, with the assistance of Special Task Force and police, had shot dead two days ago a bear, after it killed a couple and injuring three, including two officials, in Thottamokkai near Kothagiri.
The officials had kept three cages in the vicinity of the
village, after the residents expressed fears on the movement of a female bear in the area two days ago.
The bear fell into the trap this evening and plans are afoot to tranquilise it and release it to the jungles, Forest Department sources said.
