Female child lifter arrested for abducting three-month-old kid

The Thane city police arrested a 30-year-old woman today, for allegedly having abducted a three-month-old child from its mother, the police said.

Assistant police inspector C M Pandit of the Naupada police station said that one Sunita Jaiswal (45) was sleeping on the pavement near Chintaman Jewellers at Jambli Naka last night, when the alleged child lifter approached her.

The woman who took away the child from the mother at night and was never to be seen.

Meanwhile, the mother lodged a complaint with the Naupada police which registered an offence under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code and managed to locate the child lifter and the abducted child.
 

The abducted child and the mother were reunited by the police this afternoon, the police said, adding that the matter is being investigated further.

The child lifter has been identified as 'Poonam' and the police is trying to find out if she had abducted any other child in the past.
