Female elephant found dead in reserve forest area

The decomposed carcass of a female elephant was today found in a forest area coming under Sirumugai Range in Coimbatore district, forest officials said.

Based on information from the villagers, forest department officials, including veterinarian Manoharan rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass.

Preliminary examinations revealed that the elephant, about 20 years old, could have died due to internal infection. Some remains have been sent to Chennai for further examination, department sources said.

The carcass was buried at the spot,they said.
