An aged female intruder, who tried to enter the Indian territory from Pakistan, was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) early today in the Gurdaspur Sector.

According to BSF officials, the incident occurred near the Bharial border outpost at around 3 AM, when suspicious movement was noticed close to the fence along the Indo-Pak border.

Despite repeated warnings, the intruder kept marching towards the Indian side after which the troops opened fire, BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) R S Kataria said.

He said that the woman aged around 60, was shot dead near the Bharial border outpost.

Pakistani border authorities later refused to accept the body of the woman and it was then handed over to the civil authorities in Gurdaspur, Kataria said.

This is the second time that a woman intruder from Pakistan has been shot dead in recent past.

The previous incident had occurred about six months ago in the same sector, Kataria said.
