Stating this during question hour in the state assembly today to a reply to Bodo Peoples Front (BPF) member S Basumatary, Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said the fencing will come up to protect the jumbos and prevent them to migrate to human habitation.
The minister identified the vulnerable areas in the districts of Sonitpur, Jorhat and Nagaon where of late there were reports of man-elephant conflict.
Hussain said the government was taking the issue seriously and committed to protect wildlife as well the villagers who are vulnerable to attacks from the animals.
Basumatary claimed there had been lot of incidents of man-elephant conflict and there was an urgent need to fence the forest areas to prevent the animals to come to human habitat for fodder.
