Noted names in the English stand-up comedy from across the world, like Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias, Eddie Ifft and Paul Varghese are getting together to tickle the funny bone of Indians at an upcoming Chuckle Festival
Organised by Comedy Central and conducted by stand-up comic, scriptwriter and satirist, Tanmay Bhatt, the three-day festival is set to be held in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.
"Comedy is a genre that binds all age groups and touches millions of hearts across India. The growing popularity of this genre has inspired us to not only create a platform for globally renowned comedians in India but to also give Indian audiences access to world-class artists," says Ferzad Palia, at Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd.
Eddie Ifft, the funny man on America's hit comedy show "The Legit" who has headlined shows in countries like the US, UK, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, China and the UAE says for his gig in India he is coming armed with a few cricket stories.
"When I travel to a new country I get a little nervous. But once I get a few laughs the nervousness goes away. I am going to travel around see the cities and absorb the culture- so I can add my observations in my act. I have also been watching Indian television for the same reason. I am well aware of the obsession India has with cricket, so I do have a few cricket stories lined up," says Ifft.
Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias who has been associated with programs like "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Conan," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Good Morning America," has been known for his witty performance.
"I plan on doing the exact show that I would do in America, Canada, Australia or the Middle East. I make it a point to make my show broad so that everyone gets it. The show you get here, is the show you will get in New York, you might get a little more personal stuff about what I saw on my way here from the airport, but aside from that, same show," says Iglesias.
Paul Varghese who has opened for the likes of comedians such as Russell Peters says he is sure to make pople jump off their seats with laughter.
"I come from Kerala originally and I always knew there would never be a comedy club there. But it's extremely exciting to see comedy getting popular in India now. I have performed for a few Indians in US but I always wanted to perform in front of an Indian crowd. If the Comedy Central Chuckle Fest goes well I will get a chance to come back to India," says Varghese.
