Festive fervour in Bengal on Eid-ul-Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan, was today celebrated in West Bengal amidst religious fervour and gaiety.

Kolkata Police said that around 43,000 Muslims gathered on Red Road for the Namaz-e-Eid, while thousands offered prayers at Nakhoda Masjid, Tipu Sultan mosque and several other mosques in the city.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the Red Road prayer and extended her greetings to the Muslims on the auspicious occasion. Banerjee had visited Tipu Sultan mosque last night.

Big Eid congregations were also reported in the districts.
