A few household pujas in the city today immersed their Durga idols but none of the big puja organisers.

"None of the big puja organisers today immersed their Durga idol today. There was no procession because of Durga Puja immersion," a senior official of Kolkata Police told PTI.

It was learnt, that no Puja organiser had sought prior permission for the immersion of their Durga idols on October 1 from the Kolkata Police.

There were, however, immersions of Durga idols by a few household pujas, he added.

There were also a few immersions of Durga idols by household pujas in the districts.

Around 3500 community pujas were held in the city this year, while over thousands more were organised in the suburban towns and villages across West Bengal.

"From tomorrow there will be immersions as it happened yesterday. Immersions will continue till October 4," the Kolkata Police officer said.

The Calcutta High Court had allowed immersion of Durga idols on all days from Bijaya Dashami according to the Hindu almanac, including on Muharram on October one.

The high court had also directed the West Bengal government to make necessary security arrangements in this connection.

The state government had earlier imposed restrictions on Durga idol immersion on September 30 after 10 pm and had disallowed it on October one.
