Providing universal health coverage and lowering cost of medical treatment are among key suggestions submitted by industry body Ficci to Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

Representatives of Ficci today called on Vardhan and shared a wish list for revamping the country's healthcare sector.

"A new National Health Policy needs to be rolled out to support implementation of universal health coverage (UHC) over the next decade," Ficci President Sidharth Birla said.

"To contain rising cost of healthcare, we also need to provide facilitating regulatory environment to promote innovative products and practices to make India a hub for medical technology," Birla said.

The government should also focus on investments in preventive and promotive health in light of rapid demographic and epidemiological transition in the country, Ficci said.

"Significant incentives need to be extended to the health insurance and healthcare industry to introduce products and services focused on prevention," Birla said.
