A car free day was observed in south Delhi today with the AAP government launching a plantation drive to mark the fifth such initiative in the city.

The car free day was observed from Munirka T-Point to Hyatt Hotel T-point, Vivekanand Marg.

At the event, Delhi government's Environment department distributed saplings and plants among commuters.

"Henceforth, we will distribute saplings on every car free day as besides checking pollution we also need to increase the green cover in the national capital," said Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai.

"The next car free day will be held at Loni Road in North East Delhi," Rai said, adding, "We are making all efforts to check air pollution levels in the city," Rai said

Rai said the Delhi government was now looking forward to the next phase of odd-even, which will be held from April 15.

"Delhi government completed one year in office on February 14 and despite consistent hurdles, difficulties, conspiracies, CBI raids, Delhi government has produced results and it is just because of your good wishes. Despite their (opposition) efforts we are working and we will continue to work," Rai said.

AAP MLA Somnath Bharti led a cycle rally on the occasion.
