A fifth man has been charged over the alleged kidnapping of three Indians in Hong Kong in what is described as a sophisticated international crime.
Hussain Ghazan, a 20-year-old unemployed man, is accused of renting a Tuen Mun house to detain businessman Manmohan Singh Mangat, banker Satwinder Singh and lawyer Gurinder Singh Gill.
The three were kidnapped on October 25 after they arrived in Hong Kong to discuss the sale of a piece of land owned by Mangat.
Court prosecutor Diana Cheung said inquiries revealed Ghazan rented the house from August to October this year and applied for rent from the International Social Service, but rented a different place from November 1.
Ghazan appeared in Fanling Court yesterday with four others -- Karmjit Singh, Nasir Mahmood, Mohammad Asif and Pakistani national Mohammad Rafiq.
None entered a plea to the charge of kidnapping and the case was adjourned to December 19, pending further police inquiries. The court heard that some other suspects were still at large.
Karmjit Singh was freed on bail, but must report to Tin Shui Wai police station three times a week.
Refusing bail to four others, Principal Magistrate Bernadette Woo Huey Fang said: "It is a sophisticated crime with premeditation and international elements."
Meanwhile, police arrested a seventh suspect, an expatriate man aged 24, and conducted a search of his home last night.
