Film industry pays tribute to screen icon Suchitra Sen

Bengali cinema stars and Bollywood personalities today came together to mourn the death of veteran actress Suchitra Sen, paying rich tributes to her enchanting beauty and inspiring work in classics like 'Devdas', 'Aandhi' and 'Saptapadi'.

Sen, 82, died in Kolkata due to a massive heart attack at a super-speciality hospital. The actress was admitted to the hospital last month following a respiratory tract infection.

Bengali cinema superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee posted on Twitter, "It's a great loss for Bengali Cinema and Indian Cinema Maha Nayika is no more... Mrs Sen... RIP."

Actress Rituparna Sengupta, who is set to reprise Sen's iconic character Debi Chowdhurani, said, "She was a great symbol of women empowerment. She was not only known in Bengali film industry but also in the international cinema. I look upto her. She lived in the minds of people and remembered for her beautiful smile and the aura."
 

Bollywood star Sridevi tweeted, "An actor par excellence, a divine beauty, a legend and an icon who will inspire generations to come. RIP Suchitra Sen."

"RIP Suchitra Sen... Real inspiration... How to detach yourself from the Stardom and Film world ... Spiritual power," tweeted Shoojit Sircar.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar said her demise will be a great loss to the Bengali cinema.

"Suchitra Sen will always be remembered for her remarkable performances in Devdas, Aandhi, Mamta and immense contribution to Bengali Cinema. RIP," he tweeted.

Prem Chopra wrote, "It's a great loss. She is a great actress and iconic figure of Bengali film. She made her name all over the world."

"With the demise of the beautiful and talented Suchitra Sen Bengali cinema has lost one of the most beautiful actress and dynamic personality...," Onir wrote.
