Film makers can't ignore Durga puja: Mahesh Bhatt

Describing Durga Puja as one enchanting background for films, director Mahesh Bhatt terms Ray classic Devi as one unforgettable film he will never leave behind.

"I remember one film. Satyajit Ray's 'Devi' which has Durga Puja as background. It was captivating," the 'Saaransh' maker told PTI after inaugurating the BH Block puja, Salt Lake.

"Well I had never been able to recover from its spell. What subject! If you ask me about one film I would refer Devi," Bhatt, who had also made the epochal Arth, said about the Sharmila Tagore-starrer with the thespian in 60s-70s Chhobi Biswas in another crucial role.
 

The veteran Bollywood director, who felt there has to be more Hindi and Bengali films with Durga Puja celebrations forming one thread or background, said "One factor to be taken into account is the possibility to shoot real time," in outdoors to catch the mood and feel.

"Such major events the film makers can't ignore," he said but did not commit if his production would also make any film on the Pujas.

Coming to the Sunderbans-themed puja, having brought alive the Banobibi worship folk-lore and the creek-skirted Mangroves, Bhatt said, "Sunderbans express the most enchanting space in Indian sub-continent.
