Financial assistance disbursed to students

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today handed over financial assistance under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Educational Assistance scheme to students selected under government quota for medical and engineering courses in private colleges 2014-2015.

A release from office of Directorate of Higher and Technical Education of Puducherry government said that the government had earmarked Rs 33.91 crore to provide the assistance to students joining the professional courses under government quota after selection for admission by Centralised Admission Committee for the academic year 2014-2015.

The government provides Rs 2.25 lakhs for a student annually for medical course while annual assistance of Rs 25,000 is available per student under the scheme for engineering courses.
 

The assistance is available to students without consideration of parental or family income and is meant to ensure that no student faced financial crunch to go in for professional courses. The government aims at covering 7813 students in medical stream and 6890 candidates in the engineering courses.
