Finland's Foreign Ministry says its computer networks have been widely hacked but that no highly sensitive information was lost.

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said the breach was detected earlier this year and is now being investigated by police as "aggravated espionage."

Finnish Security Intelligence Service spokeswoman Liinu Lehto told The Associated Press that police suspect the involvement of "a foreign power" but would not name it. Lehto said the probe likely would last a long time.

Recently, some European countries have complained about secret surveillance of their officials and citizens in the wake of revelations about a far-reaching spying programme by the US National Security Agency.
