An FIR has been registered against three persons for allegedly pilfering crude oil worth crores of Rupees from Bharatpur-Mathura IOC pipeline passing through Sonaut village in the district, police said today.

A person named Mukesh had taken some land from Dharmendra near the pipeline in the village and used to steal crude oil from the pipe which was passing from the land, police said.

On a tip-off from villagers, police today recovered two valves and about 100 meters pipe used for stealing the oil, they said.

An FIR has been registered against Mukesh, Dharmendra and one more person in the case, SSP Pradeep Yadav said, adding that they all are absconding.

"Though the patrolling of the pipeline is done regularly, the pilferage must have been done when the patrolling team had gone to other side," Chief operating Manager Mathura Bharatpur pipeline E Haq said.

The leakage could not be detected since line flow rate was very low. Normally computer detects line flow rate if it is beyond 3 per cent, Haq said.

I am confident that none of our staff is directly or indirectly involved. However to prevent future thefts of crude, a meeting of high officials would be called and ways would be found, he said.
