Superintendent of Police Shivdeep Lande said a case was registered against the MLA Anandi Prasad Yadav on the complaint of a contractor of the road construction company.
The SP said the contractor in his written complaint alleged that the MLA from Sikti assembly constituency threatened him that if he was not paid Rs 5 lakh he would get the work stopped and seize JCB machine involved in road construction work.
Efforts to contact the MLA over phone did not succeed.
The SP said police was investigating the matter.
