The police have lodged an FIR against JU(U) MLA Anant Singh following a complaint by a contractor Raghvendra Pratap Singh, that he was demanding Rs 10 crore from him.

In the written complaint Raghvendra has complained that men belonging to the MLA from Mokama constituency in Patna district barged into his house on August 22 and demanded the money. He has also provided CCTV footage of the incident to the police.

Confirming the FIR lodged at SK Puri police station in the state capital, DSP (Secretariat) Shibli Nomani said, "The case was lodged by Raghvendra on August 22 in a matter related to sale-purchase of land. We are verifying the supporting documents, mobile call data and recordings submitted by the aggrieved party. The police will take appropriate action after verification."

Nomani said while the contractor was claiming he did not get money worth the land sold to Anant Singh, the legislator was claiming he did not get the promised land in lieu of the money paid for it.

"The MLA has also provided supporting documents to the police about the deal and submitted proof of monetary transactions related to it. We will investigate the matter and then take action accordingly," added Nomani.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Raghvendra's mother Kalawati Devi said, "The MLA and his henchmen had been threatening to kill us if we did not pay Rs 10 crore. They also came to our house. I had been telling them that we could not give so much money even if we sold our entire land and property."

Reacting to the allegations, Anant Singh told reporters that he was only demanding the money which was given to Raghvendra to buy land, but he was continuously evading him.

"I have given him money for land and he escaped with it. I cannot sit quietly. I will demand my money back. I will get the entire matter investigated by the police, then only the truth will come out," added the MLA.
