Rajveer Singh, an executive engineer working with the scheme, was apparently annoyed over not being relieved from duty despite being transferred to Jaipur 18 days back, Zila Parishad CEO Kesrilal Meena said.

A case of theft was lodged against him yesterday on a complaint by district authorities that he "fled with his service book".

District Collector Arti Dogra had yesterday said the scheme in the district was running short of engineering staff due to which Singh was retained but he was "assured" of relieving as soon as a replacement came in.

Meanwhile, Singh rejected the allegations, claiming that he is in Jaipur for his new joining at the head office and has handed over the service book to the authorities of Public Works Department there.

"I have not fled with the service book. I am at my head office for my joining and have submitted my service book to PWD authorities at Jaipur today," Singh said over phone.

He also pointed out he was a gazetted official and has the authority to keep the documents with him.

He said he waited for 18 days to get relieved and yesterday, he left his relieving letter at the Bundi office and handed over receipt of the service book to a junior clerk there.

The district administration also initiated a departmental inquiry against the official and sent a report regarding the matter to Chief Executive Engineer of MGNREGS in Jaipur.

When contacted, Additional SP N L Pavan said police was probing the matter "as it came before it".
