An FIR has been registered in a case where the principal of an Industrial Training Institute here was seen beating students in a video, which went viral after it was shared with the media by the students.

"We have received complaint from the students today; FIR has been registered under Section 324 of IPC (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means)," a police officer involved in the investigation said.

He said "Investigation is going on; we will be calling the principal as well."

The students, who were witness to the incident, made the video, using a smartphone, showing the alleged caning or beating of students by the principal over "flimsy reasons".

Students had even said that the fear of unfavourable repercussions, including removal from the college had held them back from lodging a complaint with police.
