An FIR, which was filed against a cabinet minister of Uttar Pradesh and some other persons following a court order, has been quashed after the reported incident turned out to be false, a senior officer said here today.

The FIR was lodged yesterday against Fisheries and Public Enterprises Minister Iqbal Mehmood and some other persons following order from a court in Sambhal.

"The FIR lodged against Mehmood, Aanees Qureshi, Tanveer Qureshi, Mohd Tahzeem alias Micky, Sohail alias Bunty, Zeeshan, Raees and seven to eight unidentified persons has been expunged," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Amrendra Sengar told reporters here.

"During investigation the complaint was found to be untrue," Sengar added.

The FIR was lodged under sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC, Sambhal Superintendent of Police Piyush Srivastava had said.

Srivastava said, in addition to these sections, Mehmood had also been booked under IPC Section 120(B) (criminal conspiracy).

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anjana Bharati had on June 24 directed the police to register a case on an application moved by lawyer Nutan Vijay.

Vijay had alleged that on May 25, the minister's supporters assaulted him, vandalised his house and looted valuables.
