The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has lodged a complaint against the Cambodian temple authority for carrying out construction works in regulated areas of Sarnath without obtaining permission, government told Rajya Sabha today.

Replying to a question, Minister for Culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch said the Cambodian temple authority had applied for permission for construction within the regulated area. The application was forwarded to the competent authority, Divisional Commissioner of Varanasi, in April 2011.

The permission has not been communicated to the field office of ASI in Patna by the competent authority, she added.

"Since the Cambodian Temple authority has started the work without obtaining the permission, an FIR has been lodged," Katoch said adding the FIR was lodged against unauthorised construction by the Cambodian Temple authority.
