A fire broke out at a five-storey building in Topsia area here on Wednesday evening, Fire Brigade sources said.
Police said that there was no news of any person being trapped in the fire or any report of casualty.
The fire broke out in the second floor of the building in which several godowns of leather items are located. Four fire tenders have already been pressed into service to bring the situation under control, the Fire Brigade sources said.
Firemen said huge amount of raw and finished leather articles, besides several inflammable articles, are stored in the building.
"The area is also very congested and it is difficult to conduct fire fighting," they said.
Reason of the fire or the extent of damages were yet to be ascertained, the police said.
Police have cordoned off the enter area after evacuating everybody from the building, they added.
