Fire at SBI branch in Rourkela

A fire broke out at a State Bank of India branch near Bisra Chowk here today, damaging office equipment.

Locals saw smoke emanating from the Small and Medium Enterprises branch of the bank this morning. After they informed the police, fire tenders were sent to douse the flames, said Regional Manager of SBI here Bibhuti Bhusan Das.

The cash section and files are safe as the fire did not reach that section of the bank, Das said adding the customers should not panic as all their data are safe in another server at Chennai.

According to preliminary reports, around a dozen computers and equal number of ACs were destroyed, he said.
 

Fire officer Saroj Kumar Behera said short circuit was suspected to have triggered the fire, but the exact cause would be ascertained only after a thorough inquiry.
