Fire at TN Telecommunications Ltd

A major fire broke out at the state-run Tamil Nadu Telecommunications Ltd forcing suspension of production of optical fibre cables.

"The major fire occurred in the cable store yard on January 12 around 7.40 pm and was brought under control early today. The entire fire would be extinguished by later tonight", Tamil Nadu Telecommunications Ltd, Managing Director, V S Parameswaran said in a statement.

The fire, started in the cable yard near the sub-station and spread to the adjoining raised cable platform yard and to the sub-station were captive diesel generator set is located. "We could save the raw materials and the machinery inside the factory", he said.
 

"The expected loss is under evaluation. The inventory is covered under insurance fire policy. We hope to commence the production of cable as early as possible, hopefully within a week's time", it said.

The Tamil Nadu Fire Service deployed more than 15 fire tenders and have used more than 50 truck loads of water, it said.

Tamil Nadu Telecommunications Limited was established in a three way joint venture of Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, established under Ministry of Communications, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited, and Fujikura Limited of Japan.
