A fire broke out in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) this afternoon but no casualty was reported.

The blaze was noticed in the plant's blast furnace No 2 at around 1.30 PM, the Government-run steel undertaking said in a release here.

The fire was caused by malfunctioning of tuyers (pipe which supplies air blast to the furnace for combustion purpose). Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and they put out the blaze within a short time, it said.

P Madhusudan, Chairman and Managing Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, the corporate entity of VSL, said no one was injured and situation at the plant was under control.

Production at the affected blast furnace has been suspended and all necessary steps are being taken to revive it in 2-3 days, he added.

Madhusudan clarified that other units in the plant were operating normally.
