Fire breaks out in distillery, three injured

Three labourers were injured when a fire broke out in a distillery in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said today.

A labourer sustained serious burn injuries while two others received minor wounds when a stampede like situation arose after the fire broke out at the Welcome Distillery Private Ltd located in Chherkabandha village on Ratanpur-Kota road of Kota block yesterday, Bilaspur Additional SP J R Thakur said.

Soon after the incident, the factory management informed the fire brigade and admitted the injured to local hospitals, Thakur said.

The factory, which manufactures rectified spirit, was closed for past one month due to some maintenance work.
 

On Thursday, some labourers were engaged in welding work near a spirit tank when a minor explosion occurred in the tank following which fire broke out inside the factory.

Gradually, two other tanks of spirit also caught fire, the ASP said.

Kadir Khan (27), who was working on the top of a tank sustained serious burn injuries while others were wounded while they trying to flee from the spot, he said.

The fire was brought under control till late night.

A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding, further probe is on.
