At least eight houses were reduced to ashes while five others partially damaged in a fire at Motowa village in Tirap district, an official release said here today.
There was no report of any casualty in the fire that broke out yesterday.
The cause of the fire incident was not yet known.
The district administration paid Rs 5,000 each to those whose houses were completely gutted. Some additional amount would be paid to them after the report of assessment was studied carefully, the release said.
Those whose houses had been partially destroyed would also get some compensation.
Local MLA Tirong Aboh has announced to distribute 50 pieces of CGI sheets to each family whose houses were completely gutted, the release added.
