Fire guts 20 structures in J&K

At least 20 structures, including 12 residential huts, were damaged today in a fire incident in Nowhatta area of the old city, police said.

"Fire broke out in the residential house of Abdul Rahim Sheikh at Tujgari Mohalla, in Nowhatta area of the city. The fire engulfed 19 other structures including 12 adjacent residential huts," a police spokesman said.

There have been no casualties reported in the incident, he said adding that the fire was brought under control on time by the fire brigade personnel.

Later, state Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar announced in the Assembly in Jammu that maximum possible assistance will be provided to the victims.
 

"A comprehensive report about the nature of loss will be prepared for providing adequate compensation to the victims," he said.
