Fire in Ballygunge Science College lab

A massive fire today broke out in a laboratory of Ballygunge Science College in the city.

About 14 fire engines are pressed into service to douse the flames. The fire broke out at 5.55 PM in the laboratory of zoology department, situated on the first floor, fire department officials said.

"The fire is under control at the moment and we are trying to douse the pocket-fires at the moment," a senior officer of the Fire Department said from the spot.

Students, faculty members, scholars were safely evacuated as personnel of Disaster Management Group, High Radio Flying Squad and representatives of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) reached the college campus, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
 

"The cause of the fire is not yet known. But the fire spread fast and took a massive form due to the presence of chemicals and flammable materials inside the laboratory. We have managed to evacuate persons from the first floor of the building," the fire department official said.
