Fire in central Kolkata

A major blaze broke out at a plywood store in the central part of the city this evening but there was no reported of casualty so far, fire brigade officials said.

The fire fighting operations faced difficulty as the store is located in a congested lane of Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani.

Twenty seven fire tenders are battling the blaze and neighbouring buildings have been evacuated, said Fire Services Minister Javed Khan who visited the site to supervise fire fighting operations.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage was yet to be ascertained, the officials said.
